The latest version of Kazaa Lite has a way of hiding some of the shared music files on a user's hard drive and can purportedly prevent users with an IP address associated with the RIAA from scanning the list of active users.

Looks like I'm going to be making sure I've got the latest version of Kazaa lite installed when I get home tonight.

Hopefully this new version of Kazaa Lite actually works the way it claims to. Otherwise, it looks like I've got to figure out what embitca called the 'old fashioned way' of sharing files. (usenet & irc).

They're demands are so ridiculous. If they would lower the prices of CDs by just three or four dollars, I would happily stop downloading music

Exactly!! Once apple's iTunes is available for Windows, I'll likely look there to legally download what songs I can.

But, for me, the VAST majority of what I download is live performances, remixes, import/bonus tracks, b-side singles, a single song from a soundtrack that's no longer available for sale, and etc. If I download a currently popular song, from an album that's currently & readily available, it is only to see if I like enough songs to buy the album. For me, that's at least 3, preferably 4 songs.

If the RIAA would take all the money they're putting into this lawsuit crap, and use it to change the record industry's business model, then it they might be doing something productive. But, this lawsuit bullshit is NOT productive.

I've got half a mind to never buy another album until they fix this crap. Well, maybe just for the artists I ferverently support. The albums I would consider buying for 4 or so good songs, *those* albums will never be bought until the RIAA changes how they're doing things.

I definitely have a three song requirement before I will buy an album. File sharing usually speeds up this process... I hear a single, check out a few other songs, and then buy the album. And yes, most of what I share are files that you can't just go buy... live, artists that don't have mass market albums, songs from TV shows from artists that don't have albums, older songs that aren't even available on CDs, etc. Or stuff that's on the radio, which I consider public domain anyway.

I spend so much money on CDs as it is, they're certainly not losing money on me. I imagine that if I ever get sued, I'm just going to bring this huge sack of CDs in and dump them on the floor, and ask the record execs if they really want to lose my business. ;)
