A bit late, but adding my 2 cents about Bruce to the pile...

I don't mind paying for the convenience of having footage on dvds. I do mind paying $10 for that convience when the footage can be easily & readily obtainable free of charge by downloading it from someone. When that footage is not so easy to get, I don't mind paying for it.

If he really is a fan first, then why does everybody else who's a fan freely offer footage for download, or will dub & copy things they have for nothing more than the cost of a shipping & blank media?

When I was trying to find the rare footage I couldn't figure out how to get anywhere else, $10 was a bargain I was readily willing to pay to Bruce to have him send me all this wonderful rare footage. Though, I don't think I ever bought stuff from him unless he was doing a sale of some sort.

I'm rambling & repeating myself, but when it comes right down to it, the issue I have is him charging so much for stuff he had freely given to him. If all he was charging was shipping, the cost of a blank disc, and *maybe* a dollar for his time spent copying, I might have a different opinion about it. But when he can't even be bothered to slap a damn label on them? Or put it in a decent case?

::sigh::

sigh. I'm not going around and answering for bruce a lot, but I just wanted to point out a couple of things.

one reason he charges is to cover his own costs, shipping, dvds, equipment. He also buys footage--most of what he offers he's either taped himself or bought from fans, both privately and on ebay, and it's not unreasonable to me that he'd want to cover that cost if possible. Personally I'd rather have appearances on dvd than just as mpegs, but that's strictly my opinion.

the jc clips have been removed from the dvd in question, by the way, and in fact he's offering them for download on his site, freely sharing them--and he's remastered them so they sound considerably better.

it wasn't like he put them on one dvd and charged ten bucks for them, either. He added them to the mp3 dvd that already had hundreds of mp3's, with the intent of providing one master dvd for fans, with just about every mp3 they could want. Everyone objected, he took it off.

if everyone who doesn't like that there are no labels on the dvds mentions it to him, I can only think he'd take that into account too.

and in answer to the earlier comment, I've gotten bad dvds from him before too--when I tell him, he's surprised, because he does check them before he sends them out, but he always replaces them for me no questions asked.

and I'm done.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll tell her about it then.

You've definitely put new perspective on it. Thanks! :)

All very good points. I agree with you about preferring to have appearances on dvd than mpeg. And that's why, when he has a sale, I'm willing to pay $5 - $7 to get a dvd to replace many, many mpegs that've been clogging up my hard drive or sitting around on a burned cd.

he's remastered them so they sound considerably better
huh. I know they got cleaned up once from the original I heard. So, he's cleaned 'em up some more? Maybe I'll have to go take a look. I must say, that adds points for him in my book.

most of what he offers he's either taped himself or bought from fans, both privately and on ebay
And that, I have absolutely no problem paying him for. I suppose I didn't realize that so much of what he's offering is stuff he paid for.
