Is Monday over yet?
Dec. 21st, 2009 12:47 pmThe front end of my car has been making a high-pitched grinding noise at speeds >50mph... well, actually as the days have gone by that number keeps dropping, and the noise keeps increasing.
MrB dropped it off at the local Subaru dealer (past history has shown them to be competitively priced & more trustworthy than some of the other slimeball repair shops).
Answer: Noise is a from a worn (& wearing rapidly) viscous coupling. My right front CV boot is cracked & leaking grease. The Viscous Coupler is $1300 to repair... the CV boot is $220 to repair.
:(
We're a one-income one-full-time-student household. We don't have an extra $1500 to throw away. Well, technically we have it in our savings, but we need that savings to last the remaining 2.5 years that MrB will be in school.
Bye bye tax return. I haven't even seen you (or calculated you) yet, and I'm already spending you. :/
If I have a choice - I'm NEVER buying a used car again! I think the previous owner of my car really abused it (and then gave it up shortly before the 3-year warranty ran out). I've had trasmission ball bearings go bad, the oversize tires that came with the car didn't play nicely with the shocks when I had heavy passengers, the clutch & brake pedal covers were VERY worn (much more worn than they should've been)... and now this!
I suppose I'm grateful we have the money in savings, and we don't need to put this on a credit card.
I'm exhausted from only getting 5 hours sleep last night. I so want today to be over!
