Happy Friday!! :D
Sep. 4th, 2009 07:21 amI'm so excited by the three-day weekend I have coming up!! :)
Of course though we're getting an unseasonable cold front coming in so it'll be a cool & wet weekend. I think that'll be good though - I have my quilt to unstitch & re-do the quilting on, and I've been promising MrB that I'll make blinds for the living room.
Mort's had some intestinal issues, and I thought they were all cleared up, then I saw he left a 'present' on the rug in the bathroom. At least that's something we can pull up and wash! Why the one on the rug was messier than the one left in the litter box the night before last I do NOT know. We're just lucky like that? LOL!
Mort sadly has a much bigger appetite than his body should have. We'd been feeding him 2/3 cup a day of Innova EVO, and the new vet we saw about his intestinal issues said he was a little pudgy and instead of 14.8 pounds he should be closer to 13 pounds (or possibly less). So we've been feeding him 1/2 cup a day.
Unfortunately, Maya is NOT getting the hang of set feeding times. She's very used to free feeding (which we can't do or Mort will eat it). So we've got her bowl covered, and we periodically uncover it for her & then recover it. But the poor thing has been losing weight, I think. She's feeling bonier around her middle by her rear legs.
I've so got to run & get ready for work. We have a jeans day today! :D And SO many people are out today that it's going to be very slow & quiet. I'm personally hoping that they'll close the office early and I'll get to go home early!!

Date: 2009-09-04 02:41 pm (UTC)Losing weight is mroe dangerous to a cat than a person, and if it's already enough to be noticeable to you, that's not a good sign.
IMO it's better to have a normal weight cat and a fat cat than a normal weight cat and an undernourished cat.

Date: 2009-09-04 04:58 pm (UTC)We got one Feliway plug-in for one side of the apartment, but I'm thinking a second one that we can put near Maya's food bowl might be a good idea.
MrB really really doesn't like Mort eating Maya's food, and thinks that covering her bowl so Mort can't get to it is a good solution.
Personally, I think we should just leave her bowl uncovered all the time until she gets to a healthy weight & a good eating pattern. But Mort will quickly & easily eat out of Maya's bowl if his is empty. I'm sure Maya doesn't like him doing that.

Date: 2009-09-04 06:44 pm (UTC)Though I'm also thinking of putting her food bowl on top of the bookshelf next to the cat tree that only she climbs. That would give her a 'safe' place to eat that Mort can't get to (he's not much of a climber and hasn't gone near either of the two cat trees).

Date: 2009-09-04 07:03 pm (UTC)I'm really concerned for Maya and urge you again to call the vet ASAP about her losing so much weight so quickly and whether restricting Mort's access to food is worth endangering Maya.
Just a couple pounds in an 8 lb cat is 25% of her body weight, like an 120 lb adult losing 30 lbs quickly; not safe or healthy at all, plus cats livers are different and make it even more dangerous.
It would probalby be a very good idea to put her food in places only she gets too (although don't be surprised if Mort smells the food and tries to get to the same place).

Date: 2009-09-04 08:02 pm (UTC)And I've asked MrB to weight Maya today so I can see if she's lost weight and how much (so I'll know what to tell the vet when I call).

Date: 2009-09-04 08:32 pm (UTC)MrB weighed Maya... and says she still weighs 9 pounds!! So she hasn't actually lost any weight! We really have just gotten so used to Mort (aka MrPudgy) that she started to look skinny!
