A great weekend was had!
Well half a great weekend anyway. The quilting class on Saturday was a bust - no, scratch that... I did get the inner part of the quilt all quilted together in a nice diagonal pattern. I ran into trouble when I attempted to quilt the border. It bunched and puckered. Badly. And I didn't realize how badly until I'd gotten two complete lines done all the way around the quilt. Then once the teacher & I saw how badly it puckered, she told me we'd have to take it out. So she & I spent about 3 hours unstitching those two lines of quilting. And I still have some unstitching left to do! :( Eventually, I'll get that unstitching done, and I'll get the border *correctly* quilted, and then I'll be able to put the binding on.
Sunday was the Silent Picnic. Today's the last day of our ASL class, so after 9 weeks of classes, I finally felt brave enough to go to the final Silent Picnic of the summer. It went really well! I had a great time! I didn't actually understand a whole ton, but I recognized a few signs here & there, and was able to communicate with a couple people. The best part about the whole thing - the QUIET! :D It was the *first* social event I've been to where afterward I wasn't totally exhausted & drained from struggling & straining to hear people over the din that multiple simultaneous conversations creates. It didn't matter whether there was background noise as nobody was talking - it was all signing! It was fun! In the non-summer months they try to do a silent pizza &/or coffee. I'm definitely going to try & go to the silent pizza next month. :)

Date: 2009-08-24 07:22 pm (UTC)But instead of being *more* exhausted than a hearing/talking group... I was less exhausted - in fact, I wasn't really exhausted at all! It was such an amazing wonderful thing!
I can't wait for the Silent Pizza next month!! :D
