another (orange) cat!

rosebeeMrB & I went for a walk, and when we approached our apartment building we saw what'd been causing the meow/cry we'd heard most of the day.
A very pretty orange and white male cat. VERY friendly, but also a little dirty.
We sat on the sidewalk and the cat rubbed up against our legs and was VERY happy to get petted. Nearly started climbing up onto my lap, too!!
We went back up inside, and started talking about the cat. I think we've been hearing this cat meow for the last week or so, just weren't sure what it was.
We both felt extremely sorry for the poor kitty, so we brought it out some food and water. Only about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of food. The cat gobbled down *every* single last kibble - I've never seen a cat eat so quickly! It wasn't at all interested in the water, so I assume it's found a place to get water.
The people in the apartment above us moved out about 7 to 10 days ago, and I now suspect that they left this cat behind rather than move it with them. :(
There's nothing in the lost & found ads in the paper for a lost orange & white cat.
If it's still hanging around in the morning I'm going to call the vet when it opens and take it in for disease/flea treatment, shots, health check-up, and an age estimate. Then we'll bring him home. Of course, if the cat's been microchipped then we'll call the person and see if they want to come pick it up.
He's SO friendly!! I think he'll be good to have around, and he'll keep Maya company during the day while we're gone.

Date: 2009-07-06 01:32 pm (UTC)If the cat is still outside when I leave for work, I'm going to call the vet as soon as they open at 8am, and make an appointment.
Then I'm going to leave work at noon today, and take the cat in and get its fleas taken care of, a health check-up, and etc. Of course I'll have them scan for a microchip first, and if it has a previous owner we'll have to try and reunite them.
But I'm hoping we'll be able to keep him!
