More with Sims3...
Jun. 5th, 2009 06:54 amThis "story progression" thing is new & different, I'm still getting used to it.
Last night, I played a single lady (a pre-made Sim named Erin Kennedy) long enough to get her moving in her job (a few Sim days).
This was also the only length of time I left my self-sim couple unattended. In that length of time they went from:
Family of 2 living in a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom house with $3k simoleans to family of 3(?!) living in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom house with $18k simoleans!! The toddler I was not expecting. And the game named him Guiseppe! The bigger house with more money was a huge help though - I was able to nicely outfit the house with tv, computer, toddler stuff, and etc. The toddler is now a child, and to see what their genetics would turn out like (I don't know if Guiseppe is an adopted or natural-born sim) I had them get pregnant, gave the mom lots of watermelon, and got myself a baby girl. I was prepared to have the simmom give birth at home, but she had other ideas and decided to go to the hospital with her hubby (leaving their son home alone, but the game didn't seem to mind). Now I think I've got to get the mom a job so I can get the funds to build a third bedroom over their carport.
The part I don't get though, is that in the neighborhood view (or Edit Town as its called now), I checked in on this couple... and they were just the two of them in the same house I started them in. I clicked a few other houses to see what others were doing, and then went back to this couple. Their picture suddenly gained a toddler! But they were still in the same house! Then when I clicked on the house, it took me to that new 2bed/2ba house! Very weird. I don't know if the game is supposed to work like this or not.
However, from now on, any new sims I create I'm playing as soon as I make them and plop them in the neighborhood. I'm getting them set up with jobs & such, so that when I leave them unattended it won't be so difficult if they suddenly spawn offspring while I'm away!
I'd really like the option to modify story progression. Ie - getting married, moving within town, changing jobs, having children would all be on my OK list. But I'd like a way to stop moving out of town (I don't want certain sim families to just disappear) & stop autonomous adoption).
I'd also love a way to modify the game's internal list of approved names it gives out to sims born while I'm not playing those families.
