A new computer!! In a month's time, I'll have a new computer. :D

But its days as a primary machine are coming to an end. HTB & I will still keep it around. There're two of us here now, and we *really* need 2 functional computers. This machine will become HTB's main machine, as well as my backup machine when HTB needs to use my new one (aka the household's superfastnewspiffy machine) to play games or something on.
We'll at least have 2 machines that can check email & the internet and do other basic functions.

This current computer has served me very well as my one and only computer for the last ::counts on fingers:: 6 and a half years. It started life as a 128mb ram 400mhz Celeron machine with a 9gb hard drive and a cd-rom. I tripled the ram, added a CD burner, and a 40gb hard drive.

The new computer will be my primary computer. Is it sad that my main criteria is that I want it to be fast enough with a good enough video card to play Sims2? I figure that's a decent benchmark, and it should result in me getting a machine that will last me for several years to come. I want to make sure I can upgrade things like the processor, ram, & everything else so this new machine can successfully last me as long as this one has. I wonder how frequently HTB & I will have fun trying to decide who gets to use the fun fast computer for playing games. It'll be set up the way I like it though, since it'll be my primary computer (with a split ergonomic keyboard, and the mouse on the left)... that should deter HTB from casual usage... but we'll see. ;)

I LOVE getting good-sized tax refunds. If I did my math right (which is a decent sized if, considering how I roughed out the numbers on my lunch hour) I should have between $800 & $900 to spend on a new computer.
HTB & I will need to get a 2nd computer desk though so we have somewhere to put the backup/HTB's computer.

Oh boy! Shopping!!

We're going to take a day and go up to Portland sometime next month. There's an exhibit going on at the Portland Art Museum that I *really* want to see, so we figured we'll just stop by Fry's after that and pick up a new computer (assuming of course that they'll have the best prices). I figured I'd also price scout Costco and Dell.
I want it to be next month already!

Mostly for the new computer, but also because HTB & I just found out his former landlady can *only* do a walkthrough on his apartment on Friday Dec 30th. He's going to have to ask for that day off special... and we're going to have to drive over to Idaho the night before, after work (arriving in the wee hours of the morning), feverishly spend most of the day Friday cleaning the apartment, and then do the walkthrough with his landlady late that afternoon...
And hope to GOD we cleaned up enough for him to get his deposit back! He's only been there for 6 months so at least it can't be too bad...
::knocks on wood::

And this cold of mine is finally starting to go away & I'm starting to feel really close to human! ::knocks on wood some more::
Pneumonia sucks!
