HTB started getting error messages on his computer so he figured he'd reinstall Windows (because that's what it looked like was the problem).

Windows wouldn't reinstall, kept throwing up an error code at the same place in the process. He figured it was the scratch on the Windows Install CD. So he went out and bought a new one (OUCH!). Here's where it gets really fun. The brand new CD kept doing the same thing. Short story is that it turns out his RAM (the matched dual-channel set that he just bought in February) one of the 2 sticks was bad.

RAM was returned (both sticks, since they're a matched set), and his computer remains inoperable until the replacement RAM arrives (expected to be delivered on Thursday).

Since we're back to sharing one computer (and it's only been a week, and will only last a few more days) I figured it's easier just to not bother trying to get on. I've been meaning to update my LJ, I need to email my half-sister, and I've been itching to play Morrowind and Sims2, but it's all stuff that won't blow up if it waits a few more days.

This whole thing just reinforces how wonderful it is for the two of us to each have our own computers. I miss each of us sitting down at our respective computers at the end of the day...

We've been through this, too. First it was my boyfriend's computer that broke down and then mine. When we moved in together he thought that it would be easier/cheaper just to have one computer but after sharing for a few weeks those two times, he's forgotten all about that! Once you're used to having your own it's absolutely no fun sharing!

To me, there's also a question of privacy involved. Not that either of us have anything to hide, it just feels weird that he can see all my slash links and such...

Exactly! We're both runing Windows XP Pro, and mine runs with the fast user switching option so we have a bit more privacy that way. It also means we can each keep applications running while the other's logged on and working on the computer. :)

I'm counting down the hours to when we're not sharing. I love the guy, but I want my computer back dammit! ;)
