GRRRRRRRRRR!!!
Jun. 29th, 2006 06:18 pmSo I went to go pick up my new glasses because they said they were ready.
I show up and I get this young chick who just started and doesn't know where anything is. I have to tell here where it doesn't fit and what she needs to do to fix it. For the upscale experienced kind of place I go to this is NOT ok. Then she tells me that she used to work at Lenscrafters (oooooh! big whoop! it sure explains a lot though), and that there they would just tell people to go walk around the mall and then come tell them what doesn't fit.
I PAY you people to know enough about fitting eyeglasses so you can KNOW where & how things need adjusting to fit. Finally this idiotic bimbo brings someone over to help her (because she doesn't know where the tools are that she's used to working with).
By this time I'm insanely frustrated because these new $250 glasses are NOT fitting right. They were loose around the ears and the bifocal line wasn't high enough and I was NOT HAPPY!
So this other lady starts helping me, and immediately I can tell she's a bit more experienced. She gets the wobbly/loose problem around the ears fixed immediately.
Then I try to explain to her that the bifocal line isn't high enough. So she adjusts the nosepads so the glasses are barely resting on my nose and feel like they're sitting miles away from my face. This adjusting of course just moves the whole frame higher. She's insistent that I just need to get used to it and it'll all be fine.
I get home and pull out my old pair and lay them side by side to look at how they're fitting. That's when I notice that the coating on my new pair of glasses is already chipped!! ::fumes:: I decide to give it a day or so to see if I can really get used to it or not before I go in and whine about the problem with the frames.
By this time I'm insanely frustrated and pull out a book to escape & cool down. That's when I discover that I can't even fit the page of a paperback book in between the bifocal line and the bottom of the frame. I'm just seeing red by this time and ready to burst into tears. Luckily my eye Dr is literally just a mile down the road.
I went back mostly winning the battle to hold back tears and explained how I just picked these up but the frame's coating was chipped already and the bifocals weren't right.
A 3rd glasses-fitting person (Optician?) helped me. This was the same (very nice middle-aged+) lady who did the fitting/measurements for me a week or so ago with the frames. I showed her the chipped coating on the frames, and she said it's warrantied and they'd order me a new pair and it would be no cost to me. Phew!!
Then I told her how the bifocal line wasn't high enough and I how I tried to tell that to the other lady but she just adjusted the nosepads and moved the frame higher on my face. She saw I was fighting back tears and told me that there was no reason to get upset, that I'm all warrantied and that they'd fix this for me. Then the nice lady had me put on the new pair of glasses and she *immediately* saw how the bifocal line hadn't been put high enough so she said she'd have that raised by 3 millimeters.
HUGEass size of relief!!
Now that I have that off my chest I think I'm going to go do something about dinner.

Date: 2006-06-30 07:05 pm (UTC)I really ought to get new ones since they need to be a little bit stronger and my frame is starting to chip. But here glasses are very expensive when you're half blind like me, I think I'd have to pay around $1350-1400! Even with a two year payment plan it's just a little much - especially considering the small change I actually need.

Date: 2006-07-03 10:42 pm (UTC)Yikes!! That's a fortune for glasses!
I really like the frames I have now but they don't make the exact same kind anymore (just in plastic frames which I've always refused to wear), and I've been wanting those flexible bendable ones.
I'm hoping that once I get these working I won't have to buy new ones for a couple years.
