Jul. 20th, 2005 09:16 pmJames Doohan (aka Scotty), died at 85.
I had the wonderful privilege of living in the same town as him when I was in high school (Redmond, Washington), about 10 years ago.
While I was in high school, I worked as a courtesy clerk at a grocery store, bagging people's groceries.
Every now and then James would come into the store, and I'd always try and get to be the one to bag up his groceries. He always called everyone "Dear". He was so sweet!
It was always such fun to see him, it always gave my inner star-trek geek a huge thrill!
(quote from article here
"Doohan's wife plans to send the actor's ashes into space via the same
private launch service that carried the remains of Gene Roddenberry,
the creator of Star Trek, into orbit after his death in 1991."
And that is a wonderful way to go, and very fitting.
Farewell Mr Doohan
