Searching through old posts??

Does anyone know if there's a way to search through your posts?

Like if I want to find something I posted god knows when, is there an easy way for me to find it or do I have to go back day by day and hope for the best?

This may be the hard way, but I use the LJ download utility to store a month's worth of posts in a text file on my computer, and then I use the Windows Find tool to find the files that have a certain unique phrase or word in them. Then, inside the file, I use Find to locate the word or phrase. That shows me the date of the entry, since that info is downloaded as well and separates the entries.

j, the official livejournal download thing kind of sucks -- it saves your entries in a format that's made for spread sheets, not text, and you have to download it month by month. Not really that useful.

it's a non-official version; I've used it to download my lj without any problems, though it's kind of tricky to figure out (at least it was for me.)

Thanks! I'll give it a try. I've always been frustrated that my journal wasn't backed up. I'd hate for some weird LJ glitch to loose all of my entries.

I've always found it odd that there's not any kind of a search feature built in to LJ. I mean, you can search for a user's name, interests, a user's email, and other stuff... why in the world can't they build some sort of a search function to search within the posts you've made?

I don't know how it's done, but damnportlanders has a search utility in the journal.
