rosebeeEEEEEP!! The poster for Justin's movie "Edison"? His name is FIRST!!!!! First!!! SQUEEEEE!!!
And in the tiny print at the bottom, he's listed first too. And they can't possibly be listing them alphabetically, so either they're manipulating his name recognition to get the attention of a certain target audience, or he really does indeed have as big of part as I think.
From what I've heard of the plot, it sounds like it should be a decent movie. At the very least, I think we can count on it to not be a "Crossroads" type thing anyway.
But good god! Justin is getting billing over Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey! The mind just boggles!
I loved the poster so much I figured out how to upload it to the itty bitty webspace my ISP gives me!
I wonder if we'll get any cool behind-the-scenes on-set pictures? Scratch that. Of course we will!
He's filming in Vancouver, right? And filming starts... March 1st? According to a USA Today article from 2/10/04 that I found on usatoday.com via google, "shooting is to begin March 8th in Vancouver, British Columbia, with the film scheduled for release next year".

Yet another edit, also from that USA today article. The *very* brief plot description they give is: "The 'N Sync singer will play a young journalist who discovers an elite team of corrupt police. Freeman plays the veteran reporter who helps him, and Spacey plays the district attorney's top investigator."
A slightly different plot synopsis from countingdown.com "What's it about? A young journalist who uncovers an elite unit of corrupt cops makes a troubled alliance with a burnt-out reporter (Freeman) and the DA's top investigator (Spacey)."
And movies.movieinsider.com says " In Edison, a young journalist uncovers an elite unit of corrupt cops. Realizing that he's over his head, he makes an uneasy alliance with a burnt-out reporter (Morgan Freeman) and the DA's ace investigator (Kevin Spacey)."
This site also says the genre is "Action, Drama, Crime/Gangster".

After nearly a year of reading scripts, Justin Timberlake has finally decided on his first feature-film role, and it's not Jimmy Olsen. While rumors had the pop star taking on the role of the superhero's pal in the upcoming "Superman" flick, that film still has no director or star, leaving Timberlake free to pursue another part.
Timberlake has signed on for his big-screen acting debut in the crime drama "Edison," in which he'll play Joshua Pollack, "a fresh-out-of-college kid with a counterculture bent" who gets his start by interning at a big-city newspaper, writer/director David Burke said.
The character is bright, but disdainful of doing grunt work, so the newspaper doesn't invite him back. Instead, he finds work at a free community weekly. In the course of following little news stories about Little League and the local senior center, Timberlake's character stumbles upon a very big story about corruption in high places in the city government.
He runs with the story, but ends up in serious jeopardy. Not knowing what to do and in over his head, he turns to the owner of the weekly, played by Morgan Freeman, someone he had dismissed as a nobody but who turns out to be a former war correspondent and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, albeit burnt-out and at the end of his career. Freeman's character schools Timberlake's, as he has all the tools, but none of the experience, to pursue the story.
"When [Timberlake's character] first runs with the story, it's all supposition," Burke said. "Freeman tells him, 'People don't care what you think, they care what you know.' " The two characters also make an uneasy alliance with a special investigator from the district attorney's office, played by Kevin Spacey. LL Cool J stars as well, as the newest member of an elite unit of policemen who is conflicted about joining the rogue cops in their practices.
To prepare for his role, Timberlake plans to shadow an actual print journalist to learn what daily news reporting is like. That arrangement should be made within the week, but is being kept confidential so that the reporter can still do his/her job without the added spotlight, "Edison" producer Randall Emmett said.
"Every studio has been after [Timberlake]," Emmett said. "We're so lucky and so excited to have signed him."
Production for "Edison" is scheduled to begin March 8 in Vancouver.

Date: 2004-02-26 05:58 am (UTC)I wish Justin well, I really do. But it's always been my understanding that marquee billing was supposed to be for the biggest star in the film. Justn's never even been in a major movie (Long Shot does not count in the real world!), much less opened a movie, and though I thought he was okay in the TV movie he did, I find it incredibly obnoxious if he gets billing over Oscar nominated and Oscar winning, respected veteran star actors like Kevin Spacey and Morgan Freeman. If this is the way the poster ends up coming out on this movie, I'll be appalled that the movie's marketing team allows it.

Date: 2004-02-26 06:05 am (UTC)Yeah. I always thought that the first name on a movie poster type deal went to either the biggest star, or the biggest role. But yeah, Justin doesn't qualify in any way shape or form as a big movie star. After Long Shot & Model Behavior, I would think he'd have to beg & plead extra hard not to simply be laughed straight out of any movie studio lot he walked onto.
I'd love to be able to sit down with whoever made the decision to put this out this way. Granted, it is *very* early, shooting hasn't even started yet, and it's not even in theaters until next year. Maybe someone will slap and fire whoever it was that put the poster out this way and change it.
