I *LOVE* the post krissita made about How JC Learned About Sex.

And since I'm a lemming, I want to put it here in my own journal as well.


From the new issue of J-14.
In an article about how some celebrities learned about the birds & the bees:

"I was probably close to six, like y-o-u-n-g, and my mom gave me a pop-up book," JC Chasez tells J-14. "Can you imagine that? She would open that thing up. Dude, I'm not lying to you - a sex pop-up book! It was black and inside it had pictures of the inner workings." [...] JC feels that his mom was cool for being so tactful with him, and ultimately, he benefited from it. "She attacked things early and really instilled them in a great way," the singer says. "She was like 'My kid is gonna know about this stuff and he's not going to look at it in the wrong way. He's not going to have his friends tell him what sex is. And then, when kids go up to him, he'll look at them like they're fools.' Then, I'd be like 'Yo, uh-uh, fool. It's not even like that! Ask your mama about it.' I'd end up schooling kids. 'Come over, I'll show you the book!'"


A pop-up book?!?!! When he was only six?!?!!

When I was six, I think all I knew was the "when a mommy & a daddy love each other very much... a baby grows in mommy's tummy..." and etc. I'm pretty sure it wasn't until sex-ed in school in 4th or 5th grade that I found out the rest of it. I was lucky to have a very thorough and complete sex-ed program all through my school years. Because I don't ever remember my mom sitting me down and telling me anything. Except for when I turned 13. She said I was a woman now & capable of getting pregnant and that if *any* boys, including my brother, were in my bedroom with me, the door had to stay wide open. So, yeah, nice & instructional. Thank GOD for school sex-ed programs.

I remember the book we had... the actual sex part was illustrated by a man and woman lying in bed (shoulder-to-shoulder, mind you) with the covers pulled up to their neck. And there it went; "a very special relationship..." Snerk.

There may have been a book involved in the whole "when a mommy & a daddy...", but I don't remember if there was or not. Knowing what voracious readers our family is, it's highly likely that there was a book of some sort involved in that little explaination.

I don't know, I learned about sex very similar to JC at about the same age. My parents were always very upfront when it came to sex and nudity, etc.

Mine weren't. At all. I remember I was maybe 12 or so, and I decided I wanted to sleep in the nude because all my pj's were uncomfortable. My mom found out (when I didn't want to get out of bed immediately when she came in to wake me up), and she completely flipped out! Said how dare you do something like that & that I was never to do that again while I lived under her roof, but that when I was a grownup and lived in my own house I could.

The typical American attitude towards sex, nudity, & etc I think is very conservative when compared to the attitudes held by residents of various European countries.

Something like that wouldn't have been an issue in my family. My mom is usually the one who sleeps in the nude when it's warm enough ;-). It at least seems that way that Americans are very conservative compared to Europeans. It's kind of sad, because nudity and sex is really the most natural thing ever.

I agree, it is rather sad. If & when I have children, I'm going to do my best to avoid imparting those particular American attitudes to them.

A pop-up book?!?!! When he was only six?!?!!

Dude, no kidding....I'm 22, and my mother still hasn't given me anything remotely close to a sex talk, LOL. By the time I hit middle school, I had some vague idea of the mechanics and such, and then 7th grade sex ed cleared it all up. But, six years old.....damn. "All day long I dream about sex..." indeed.

the six thing doesn't throw me at all. lol. I don't remember being told, but i've always known the logistics, so i must have asked and been told at a very young age, before kindergarten. i never believed in the stork or any of that stuff - i knew all the gory details. lol. if there was a book involved, i don't remember, but man, i feel gipped. JC had a pop up book! where was my pop up book?!

He's a 27 year old man. Whether he's a virgin or not is really nobody's business but his own.
