And morons still think that being gay is a "choice"... I'd love to shove this in the face of every one of those ignorant fools!

Of the 53 penguins in the Central Park Zoo, Silo and Roy are not the only ones that are gay. In 1997, the park had four pairs of homosexual penguins. In an effort to increase breeding, zookeepers tried to separate them by force. They failed, said Gramzay.

Awwwww!!

::hugs the adorably sweet & cute penguins::

And in case you're curious about other known gay members of the animal kindom, the article also has this to say:
Bruce Bagemihl's "Biological Exuberance," published in 1999, documents homosexual behavior in more than 450 animal species. The list includes grizzly bears, gorillas, flamingos, owls and even several species of salmon.

ETA: My issue with people thinking being gay is a 'choice', is that frequently that is used as a reason as to why homosexuals should simply 'choose' to stop being gay and stop living what they seemingly believe is an immoral and evil lifestyle.

As thinking beings, we are above living lives of pure instinct. In my opinion, that does not mean that gays can simply make a conscious choice to 'stop being gay'. If someone is sexually attracted to a persons of the same gender as themselves, they will always be attracted to those people and a simple choice will not make that go away. Of course, there are many people who choose to ignore or suppress this part of themselves, and live their life as a 'straight' person regardless of whether their that sexual preference is, in my opinion, their inborn nature. This kind of choice is not without consequences.

I feel that one's sexual orientation is *not* a choice. Whether you are attracted to people of the same gender as yourself, or those of the opposite gender, that is an inborn genetic component of who you are. However, like Catholic priests who are (supposed to be) celibate, you can choose whether to act on that sexual preference. But choosing to change who you are sexually attracted to is, in my opinion, impossible. For people to expect their fellow citizens of humanity to do so is not only ignorant, but is harmful in that it marginalizes and degrades those members of humanity who are doing nothing more than trying to live their life in the way they feel is right for them.

Shove away, dear because I happen to be one of those "fools." I do believe that it is a choice. Animals don't know any better...humans do. We're free, moral agents when it comes to making all sorts of choices, including sexual preferences.

I understand where you're coming from. As thinking creatures who can override instinct or ingrained preferences, people can make the choice to suppress or ignore (what I believe to be) their genetically imposed sexual preference.

I also believe that for some people, due to the beliefs of their religion, their family, or other reasons they may choose to make the choice to live a 'straight' life, though their genetic nature may make them sexually attracted to other people of the same gender. It's my belief that living such a life would tend to make someone a very unhappy person.

In my ideal world, all individuals would be free to live their life in the way they feel is right for them (assuming of course that they are not endangering or harming others).

My issue with the idea that being gay is solely a choice, is that all too often it is used an excuse as to why being gay is wrong/immoral/evil/etc, and those individuals should simply 'choose' not to be gay anymore.
