I'm STILL hoarse!
Aug. 12th, 2010 07:07 amAfter the Adam Lambert concerts on July 20 & 21st my voice was hoarse for quite a while. It finally started to sound near normal on this past Friday (Aug 6), then my asthma acted up and I was coughing a lot, and I was laughing a lot... and Saturday I woke up and my voice was WORSE! :( It was still worse on Sunday so I went to see my Dr on Monday. He referred me to an ENT Dr who I saw yesterday.
The ENT Dr tried to look down my throat at my vocal cords with a mirror like the dentists use... except I have a VERY sensitive gag reflex, and so that didn't work. Instead he sprayed some numbing stuff up my nose, and a thin camera tube went up my nose & down my throat. Not a very comfortable thing. But he did get to look at my vocal cords - he said they looked bruised & like they'd been roughed up with sandpaper!
He said 3 things were going on - I abused my voice at the concerts, even though I wasn't feeling my acid reflux it was still coming up and damanging my vocal cords, and my asthma inhaler was causing a little bit of thrush around my vocal cords.
Evidently my voice even though it sounded near normal this past Friday it wasn't completely healed yet, so the extra coughing and laughing set the healing process back.
He gave me some antifungal medication (difulcan and an odd banana tasting sort of mouthwash), and I get to go back to taking the higher dosage of my heartburn medication, and sleeping on a foam wedge pillow. It'll get better with time, but hopefully these things will help it get better faster.
And to top it off I forgot to set my alarm this morning!! At least I woke up on my own at a not too late hour!
