YAY-ness!!

rosebeeI *finally* finished that purple halter-top dress!! ::bounces around room::
It was SUCH a struggle! I also finished up a quick & easy knit skirt (well, almost finished, I still have to thread the elastic through and then finish sewing up the inch hole I left in the casing to thread the elastic through). It's a very pretty turquoise color.
Pictures to come later (today, hopefully) when my my photographer (aka hubby aka MrB) is awake. :)
We went to go see Food Inc yesterday. VERY good. Amazingly eye-opening. Things I kind of half-suspected/feared were confirmed on the big screen. Everyone really really should go see this!!
Did you know:
-McDonald's is the biggest buyer of hamburger meat & potatoes in the US? If they say they want all their meat to taste a certain way, then the 'meat growers' all have to follow.
-If feedlots would allow cattle to graze and eat grass for 5 days then 90% of the e-coli in the cows bodies would be eliminated. But of course they don't do that.
-There's a company called Monsanto (a chemical company, they made DDT and Agent Orange among other things), and they have patented a genetically modified version of soybean seed that is resistant to the pesticide Round-Up. This soybean is 90% of all the soybean plants in the US. Monsanto does NOT allow farmers to save their seed from these patented-soybean plants, it requires the farmers to buy new seed each year from them. And they farmers they suspect of saving seed, they sue for patent infringement! Monsanto even sued a "seed cleaner" for "encouraging patent infringement". The farmer fought the suit for 4 years and then had to quit & settle & go out of business because he couldn't continue to pay his legal bills.
-There's one farmer in the story that I wish was near me as I want to buy all my produce/meats from him. :) A farmer that's doing things the 'right' way.
I have a VERY VERY strong urge now to buy as much as I can at one of our town's many local farmer's markets, and to continue to always buy my meat at the local supermarket that sells locally and naturally raised options.
Also,
-I will NEVER again buy non-free range chicken meat or eggs.
-I will buy locally raised grass fed beef.
-I will frequent my farmer's market more often, and I will buy more veggies.
And now to go find breakfast!
