Nothing like a 2-day work week! :)
Sep. 7th, 2005 07:57 amGot back from my extended weekend last night. The drive is getting easier. It didn't seem as long as the last time I drove it. I think the book on tape I listened to helped. The book was only ok, but it was still nice to have.
Happily I planned to also have today off work so I have time to unpack and everything. We'll see how much I get done (I've been hoping to use this day to catch up on some chores)!
I'm still trying to decide if my body was reacting to the change in climates or if I'm really getting a cold. If it was reacting to the change in climates then my dosing up with decongestants would've just made things worse. Therefore, no extra medicines for me today and I'm going to see where things go. So far I'm still coughing though. :(
A wonderful weekend was had with HTB! The Botanical Garden was very nice. It could've been absolutely fantastic if they had more maintenance staff. It looked like it'd been allowed to get overgrown and unkempt in places. HTB got some very cool pictures while we were there. Including several of various butterflies on flowers. My favorite one however was the one of a squirrel who had carved out a hole in the side of a pumpkin. And would periodically put his entire front half of his body inside the pumpkin to retrieve pumpkin seeds. He would then emerge from the pumpkin and chow down on the seeds.
It was absolutely hilarious!! To see a pumpkin, with just a squirrel's back legs and a tail sticking out!!
The wildlife refuge was ok. Getting there & back was a nice drive through southwestern Idaho. If I'd been feeling up to getting out and hiking around I think it would've been better. Assuming that there were any hiking trails to be had.
The Birds of Prey National Conservation Area had several outdoor spots. We stopped and poked around at 3 of them. It was beautiful country. It's taken me a while to appreciate the natural beauty that exists in the desert. I still much prefer the forest or the coast though. ;) We didn't get done in time to go inside to the Birds of Prey Center to see the exhibits and the open areas where they have some birds held. I don't know if the birds are being rehabilitated or are unable to survive in the wild or what. We'll have to go back to that Center next time I'm over there for a visit. :)
