A wonderful weekend was had. Stopped by my new place of employment to pick up the insanely large packet of forms & information that comprise the new hire packet. Mailed certain forms as directed. Evidently as part of my new job I will need/be allowed access to certain secured areas. This access is evidently accomplished by means of a hand scan. I had to sign & return a form saying that I would not allow anyone to accompany me who had not also had their hand scanned & cleared by the security system, I would stay in the secure area no longer than necessary, and a couple of other caveats. I can't think why I'd need access to such secure areas, but I suppose I'll find out when I start my new job next week!

I'm going to be brave & courageous and drive over a mountain pass (which will likely have snow & perhaps ice on it) and continue driving a total of 8 hours to go visit my boy this weekend! So, to prepare for such a journey, I am going to go get my oil changed (something that should've been done about 1,000 miles ago, but I put it off as I was unemployed). I also need to go get my tires rotated.

After my 6 month probationary period is over, I'll feel a hell of a lot more comfortable at my new job. Since it's a union position, during those 6 months they can fire me for any reason. But, once those 6 months are up, I'll have a lot more security in my job. That's one reason I'm glad I got a job that's not too far above my head. While there are things I don't know, I think I'll have a easier time of succeeding at this job and passing my 6 month probationary period with flying colors than I would at a job that's a lot more challenging). I think this probationary period means posting to LJ only via a client, and only before/after work and on my lunch break.

Other good news however, is that I think my new insurance will kick in exactly 59 days after my old insurance ended. And while I have COBRA in the interim, I don't have any information from them yet. So because it'll be less than 60 days, the certificate of prior coverage I have from my old insurance (that ended 1/31) will be enough to waive the pre-existing condition clause on my new insurance.

I'm really getting used to this wonderful concept of waking up at 7:30. It's going to be a pain in the ass to have to go back to waking up early and rushing feverishly to get ready to leave the house at 7:30.
