The audiologist yesterday was EXTREMELY helpful.
She had me try on her current demo pair of hearing aids and walk around the hospital building for a while.
It was fairly clear to me almost immediately that the hearing aids were helping. MrB was easier to hear, and he noticed almost immediately that I wasn't talking too loudly (like I almost always do).
After our 20 minute demo both MrB & I were convinced that the hearing aids were helpful and worth purchasing. We talked in some noisy places, and not ONCE did I have to ask him to repeat himself, and not ONCE did he have to remind me that he was close to me and I should talk quieter! :D
Next step is to go back and purchase the actual pair of hearing aids I want. My Dr's in the midst of changing offices, so she gave me her old demo pair (still helpful, but not as much due to the older technology), and I'm going to go back in 6 weeks or so to order my 'real' pair of hearing aids. Her new office will focus less on traditional audiology stuff, and more on Auditory Processing Disorders (which is why I see her). So my only 'cost' for having these demo hearing aids for 6 weeks is to write up a testimonial for her website. As thrilled and overjoyed as I am with these aids, that is no hardship for me at all!!
The hearing aids are VERY low power, but their noise reduction options combined with the directional microphones are a godsend for me.
I was actually able to go out to a noisy restaurant with MrB and friends (more on that in a later post), and not a single time did I have to ask anyone to speak up or repeat themselves. And I never got talking too loudly either! :D
I'm beyond thrilled! It's not perfect, I still have to make sure I'm looking at whoever's talking, they have to be facing my direction, and if more than one person's talking, then I have trouble again. But overall, I'm VERY VERY happy.
