Good news: I got a job offer!
Bad news: it's in a town 50 minutes away, for $500 less per month than what I was making.
Good news: because it's in a town 50 minutes away, the employment department says that's outside my labor market, and a job offer outside my labor market is not suitable work and even if I turn down the job offer I will still be eligible for unemployment benefits.
Good news: I have 2 (2!!!) interviews next week. Both are really good jobs in accounting departments (one for a local city, the other for a local county), that pay good (what I was making, with a nice high upper range for advancement potential), and are jobs doing things I like and I want to do. One is Tuesday afternoon, the other is Friday (next Friday, the 14th) afternoon. Both will be at least 2 hours, with some sort of an exam preceeding the interview. As they are both governmental accounting jobs, the exams will be on governmental accounting rules. Something I could be more knowledgeable on. I do have some study materials however, so I know what I'll be doing between now and then! At the county job, the guy who I'd be working directly under (assuming I get the job) is someone who used to work for the same local accounting firm that just fired me. The people at my old firm called this guy up and talked me up real good, too. Then this guy left me a message on my answering machine at home telling me the time they wanted me to come in for an interview, and he left not just his work number (so I could call him back and confirm the time worked for me), but he also left me his home phone number!! ::boggles:: I think that's a good sign. :)
