forwarded to a mailing list I'm on:

hey guys just got news on were jc's spent his birthday---just got
this news from gerri nsync fan club manager
hi lorna, JC actually spent his birthday at Richard Marx's 40th birthday surprise party in Santa Monica, CA. I was there also, (as we've done Richard's fan club for the past decade). This is the measure of the man that he would choose to spend his birthday honoring somebody else! also she told me- jc's album out 27th october now, alsoNSYNC will be writing/recording all of September-mid October for their new release (no definite date yet). posted by lorna 11/08/03

with thanks
gerri

JC spent his own birthday at a surprise party for Richard Marx?! I wonder if this has anything to do with the rumored 'collaboration' [livejournal.com profile] without_me said JoJo referred to. It'd be a good collaboration to have on the album, but I don't know that it'd work well for an initial single (most good strong first singles are more upbeat than your typical 'Richard Marx song'). Which means, that really, there's no reason to delay the single. ::nods::
They should just release it now. Because I said so.

Fuck Jive hard!!!

Long story short (and this tale is long but e-mail me for details if you want). JC is not backing down without a fight and as per my friend Will who works in Pop @ Jive, JC is all about the controversy because in the end he feels that will give him legitimacy as a solo artist. The stuff he's singing about IS a departure from his *Nsync stuff and if they wanted JC, they got him on like 10. They are concerned about marketing because their assumption was that they could market him to what they think is *Nsync's audience (which by the way is ALOT older than they presume but whatever), but since he's all Parental Advisory (something they didn't see coming) now there is an issue with Marketing (as per Will). So it's still not sorted out.

At this point JC needs to quit Jive, and start pressing his own damn CD's and booking local clubs and just be reborn again as an indie artist. because his passion about his music does not Jive with Jive because they don't see the vision (they say they do, they did for a second, but then reality set in and now they've lost sight)

Damn Jive Idiots!
Why in the world didn't they grow a few brain cells and figure all this crap out ahead of time. So now, they wouldn't be delaying the first single, jeopardizing his chances at a big-draw tv debut (like the VMA's).
With all the confusion yesterday over what Justin was doing, I kinda forgot to get all obsessive about why we didn't yet have a single from JC. I guess that's today's mission!

ETA: more info/speculation from DinaScalari at the JJB:
(Haven't read all the responses) but someone mentioned why can Justin have some flavorful tracks but why is it an issue w/ JC well .... think about it: 1) based on the majority of material submitted Jive walked away from that meeting thinking "damn we have to slap a PA on this" Justin pushed the envelope but didn't tear it open. I HEARD there was a JC track that was all about sex, where he got very graphic, curses etc. 2) Jive was a part of Justin's creation process at intervals, they were aware of what he was doing, and had time to prepare. Jive basically let JC do his own thing and then resumed their business after all was said and sung.

btw Remember they do have a vested interest in *N regrouping, so their concerns (in a business sense) are valid

Hi Corey,

JC's album release has been pushed back to October 28th so I think they'll hold off for a few weeks before releasing the single. Rule of thumb is to release the first single to radio about a month to six weeks prior to the album dropping.

Management is working very hard to get all these things in place but I was told yesterday to not expect any news until September.

Cheers,

Gerri

::kicks Jive - HARD::

Right now, Jive looks like the most incompetent label on the planet. Honestly, how difficult can it be to look at where things are, decide on a release date, and stick to it and make it happen.

::sigh::

I'm so frustrated & irritated at the whole situation. And it's rapidly going to morph into 'careless' & 'fed-up' if something doesn't happen soon.

Ok... just so nobody thinks I've been spending so much time at the JJB that the attitudes there are starting to rub off on me, let me clarify a few things & a few of my reasons for posting some of the stuff I've shared today.

  1. I have no patience. This is an established fact. Just ask any member of my family, or any one of my co-workers.

  2. I have an insatiable amount of curiosity to figure out how & why things happen. This applies to nearly everything in my life - from wanting to learn how houses are built, to why animals or people behave the way they do... I want to know everything.

  3. I have a stubborn streak 10-miles wide.

1. + 2. + 3. = a person who's trying her damnest to figure out why she doesn't have a JC single yet, and will continue to try to figure it out *long* past the point of futility.

I don't think Jive is purposefully trying to 'screw JC', and I don't think JC's purposefully dragging his feet, either.

I think Jive is having to do a bit of re-thinking about how they're going to market such a unique & eclectic artist. I think JC's a bit perfectionistic and is in no hurry to rush his cd to press when he knows he could do it better.

I'm frustrated with myself for not having patience enough to wait quietly until JC's ready to have the single released.
I'm irritated with Jive for not being all-knowing mind-readers, and as a result are making me wait while they reanalyze various things.

::stomps feet like an impatient & irritable 3-year-old::
I'm tired of waiting, I'm tired of hearing one thing and then at the last minute hearing something else. Now. I want it now... I'm tired of waiting!

Did I mention I have the patience of a hyperactive toddler?

from the first paragraph of this article at mtv.com
While on a break from the Justified and Stripped Tour, Justin Timberlake shot a video in New York for his new song "I'm Lovin' It." He had planned to release the Neptunes-produced track on his next album, but since it's already leaked to radio and the Internet, he's going to release it this fall. The singer's spokesperson said it is not yet known, however, where the song will ultimately surface. ...

Looks like Justin & Jive decided they liked the song, and because radio was playing and liking the song that a video should be shot for the song so it could be released on something somewhere as a single.

You know? Even after hearing it from an official source, I find it *really* odd that they'd spend all the time & money to shoot a video for a song that doesn't yet have an album to call 'home'.

1 mystery solved, 1 to go.

Queer Eye! )

Flip-Flops! And Justin!Issue of Details!
It's just a sparkly kind of night!

And now, it's time for me to go to bed if I want to be able to get up and think in the morning.

::sigh::

I hate bedtime. I always have. I'd much rather stay up. Sleeping is so boring. If I had dreams I actually remembered, that might help things, but I don't. I never remember my dreams.
