Oh God.

My friends list seems to be feeling the exact same thing I am right now... dear lord, that could've been Lance.

I remember being in school and being told about the Challenger explosion. I was 9, I'll remember that forever. And I'll remember this forever.

I don't want to be the type to tell someone to give up their dream, but I do NOT want Lance to go into space. At first I was glad for him to (potentially) have the opportunity to live out a life-long dream... but, god I do not want him to go.

I woke up to the radio, and heard the news. I immediately went to turn on the tv to watch the news. And as I saw the video footage of the shuttle breaking up into multiple pieces and leaving behind smoke trails... my heart fell, when my mind imagined how damn easily that could've been Lance that was the new first-time astronaut (rather than the Israeli man), my heart broke into a thousand pieces.

This today, is exactly why Lance had trouble getting the backers lined up to cover the financial portion of his quest to go up to the Space Station with the Russians. Something tells me that the events of today will not make that any easier. I don't know whether to be insanely glad over that, or disappointed on Lance's behalf at the loss of his dream.
