Mar. 6th, 2004 09:49 pmWell, the good news is I think I was able to find the installation disk or the downloaded setup file for all the software I want to make sure I keep. Except for one. Somehow, I've managed to lose the cd-rom that came with my scanner. And that particular cd has the scanner drivers, and the two photo editing programs I have (ArcSoft PhotoBase & PhotoStudio 2000 - I've actually never used the PhotoBase program, just the other one).
So, I'll have to make sure those programs get transferred over to the new hard drive properly.
I also learned that it's in my best interest to partition this new 40GB hard drive of mine into seperate portions. Though, I'm going to keep most of the applications and programs on the older, smaller hard drive some of the programs will have to go on the larger one. The Sims game I just bought, for one.
So, I'm thinking I'm going to split this new hard drive up into one 10GB for additional applications, another 25GB for data file storage (otherwise known as my sparkly music & video library), and then a little 1GB file for something I just learned about called a "swap file".
This morning, before I deleted & burned off various mgegs, & a couple large audio files, I had a whopping 400mb of free space left. That's not even enough room available for me to burn a freakin' CD!
So, I'm going to move over all my data files to this new larger hard drive, copy over thoe programs I don't have the installation disc for using the software that came with the new hard drive, then completely reformat & erase the old hard drive. Once that's done, I'm going to reinstall Windows and all the programs that are going to live on that smaller drive.
