JC Chasez Theorizes About Girl-On-Girl Action, Nabs Ol' Dirty For Video
JC Chasez has constructed an interesting theory pertaining to the opposite sex.
"There's three reasons why a girl would dance on another girl," he offered, explaining the basis for "Some Girls (Dance with Women)," the steamy first single from his upcoming solo album. "One, she's attracted to a guy, so she decides to tease him a little bit. Two, she's avoiding a guy. And three, she's a lesbian. I decided to take an optimistic approach. She's doing it for me."
So that explains Madonna's onstage fling with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the MTV Video Music Awards.
"Everybody knows they're not lesbians; they're teasing the world," Chasez said, calling Wednesday while vacationing in Florida. "Girls are willing to do strange things to get our attention."
With "Some Girls (Dance With Women)," Chasez will likely be getting some attention of his own. The song, due at radio and video outlets at the end of November, features a provocative accompanying video and a remix with a guest appearance from Dirt McGirt, the rapper formerly known as Ol' Dirty Bastard.
"The record company said this is an event, you have to do something," Chasez explained. "I was like, 'I don't know, I kind of like it the way it is.' They were like, 'Just name somebody you think would rip this.' I tried to think of someone unique. Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott are amazing rappers, but they've done a million collaborations. So in my mind, Dirty is fresh. Fresh out of jail, yes. Nevertheless, no one's heard from him in a while and he's due to make some noise. And the verse he did is really cool."
For the video, Chasez worked with director Martin Weisz, best known for Korn's "Make Me Bad."
"Everything was done in good taste," Chasez said. "A lot of cats were worried it would be really strong, but it's just enough to put a smile on your face. I shot it with a very European feel. I didn't want it to be overly flashy and look like every video."
The video is set in the streets of Prague, although it was actually filmed mostly in Los Angeles, with Dirt's cameo shot a few days ago in New York.
"It's a narrative in that I'm the voyeur, watching the action," Chasez added with a laugh. "It moves [from the street] into a ballroom, but it's not a club scene. It's like a costume party, a Baroque period kind of feel, with white wigs and white makeup."
Chasez co-produced "Some Girls (Dance with Women)" with his friends Riprock 'n' Alex G, who worked on 'NSYNC's No Strings Attached.
"It starts off really bouncy, light, almost calypso feeling," JC said. "And then I added these little flute lines in the B verse that kind of made it really smooth and sexy."
The song is among the wide variety of party anthems on Chasez's Schizophrenic, due January 27 (see "JC Chasez Previews Schizophrenic Solo Debut").
Last week, JC premiered a different song on "The Wade Robson Project," the even steamier "A.D.I.D.A.S.," an acronym for All Day I Dream About Sex (similar to Korn and Killer Mike's songs of the same name), which is being considered for the second single.
"I kind of wanted 'Some Girls' as the first single because even though the title's kind of obvious, it's a very thoughtful track," Chasez said. "It's something we all talk about. It's like nobody every really isolated it and pointed the finger at it. 'A.D.I.D.A.S.' is surprising a lot of people. It's just right in your face, which will be fun, but I want people to know I did spend time thinking about some of these songs."
Chasez is finished with Schizophrenic and will concentrate on promoting the album until the middle of next year, when 'NSYNC are expected to reunite (see " 'NSYNC's Return On Hold While JC Flies Solo, Justin Confirms").
Do you even care if another 'NSYNC album comes out? Vote in our poll.

J.C. Chasez Goes For Solo Stardom
The 'N SYNC heartthrob follows in Justin's footsteps with his new album, Schizophrenic.
Unbeknownst to the thousands of squealing tweens, J.C. Chasez is perched right above them in a luxury skybox at the Office Depot Center in Sunrise. Of course, these pre-pubescent girls are totally enthralled with the evening's tag-team headliners: Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. And Chasez, who came to support his 'N Sync band buddy, is mentally taking notes. After all, that could be him up there alone on stage soon.
This month was supposed to mark the debut of Chasez's solo album, Schizophrenic, but Jive Records, his label, recently pushed it back to early 2004. While his effort his highly anticipated, it inevitably will be measured up against Timberlake's current smash, Justified. (On Billboard Top 50 for almost a year, peaking at number two, the album has sold almost three million copies and has produced three Top 10 singles - "Like I Love You," "Cry Me A River," and "Rock Your Body" - and the current "Senorita.") "Everyone is going to compare it to Justin's album because we came from the same group," Chasez, 27, acknowledges. "We know how it's going to go down. So what? I'm being compared to my best friend! Gee, that sucks. Compare me to the most talented guy out there right now. At the end of the day, you'll hear two very different worlds. His record is the shit. But Justin would never do half the stuff I've done. And I probably wouldn't have done some of the stuff on his album. It just would not have come out of me. We are two different personalities with two different sounds."
And Chasez's style certainly more eclectic than that of his former Mickey Mouse Club co-star. The singer/songwriter's album is the culmination of nine-plus months of recording song after song. "At first, I wasn't really recording to make a body of work," he explains. "I was just recording for fun. I was exploring myself musically because I like so many different things. All musicians owe it to themselves to explore like that. This record evolved out of sheer joy. There's no choreography, and it's refreshing. When I heard the collection of material that I had in front of me, I came up with the name Schizophrenic."
Although the album has been delayed, I was able to listen to portions of it while Chasez was in Miami recently for 'N Sync's fifth annual charity weekend, Challenge for the Children. From what I heard, the work is a departure from his boy-band, heartthrob status. Yes, there are the signature ballads that will make the girls swoon. But there are also edgier, heavy-hitting with explicit lyrics. "'N Sync never put out a song with lyrics like, 'All day long I dream about sex.' I'm putting myself out there," he says. "It's a risk, but I don't look at it as one. It felt right."
It also reflects his personality and writing abilities. "Some of the songs are personal," Chasez admits, "and some are goof-off songs. But the writing process was different because I was writing for myself, not a group. When I am writing for 'N Sync, it is more of a collaborative effort. For this I didn't have to think in terms of, The group sounds like this, or, How are the other guys going to like it? A lot of the stuff we did in 'N Sync was love, love, love, love, love. That's awesome. I love a love song. But I also like listening to Aerosmith. So I wrote with the doors wide open." But 'N Sync fans needn't worry about the band breaking up - J.C., Justin, Lance, Joey and Chris are heading back to the studio at the beginning of 2004 to record a new album.
It's obvious they are a tight-knit group on and off the stage, despite the fact they haven't worked together in more than a year. During their weekend in Miami, it was all one big bonding session as the band members raised money for children's charities across the country. No one seemed to resent Timberlake's hyper-leap into anther stratum of fame, nor his May-September coupling with Charlie's Angels stunner Cameron Diaz. If anything, it was a marathon of partying at hotspots such as B.E.D., Mynt, Crobar, Prive and La Piaggia. "Who doesn't love South Beach? You can't beat it," Chasez declares. "I like the fact that it's a small town even though it has this big, loud vibe about it. So, you see familiar faces and feel comfortable."
Chasez recently made another appearance at in Miami, as a presenter at the Latin Grammys on September 3rd. It's not a far trek for him, considering he calls Orlando home, where he lives alone. Most recently linked to hard-partying actress Tara Reid, Chasez still keeps in touch with his ex. "Everyone made a big deal out of our relationship," he explains. "Tara is my homey, my buddy. She's a bad-ass girl. She gets a bad rap for being crazy, but she has a heart of gold." Currently the second most popular 'N Syncer is single and available. "I date a lot," he says. "I'm in that mode. But I'm not in love with anybody."
In other news, I have a midterm tomorrow I haven't started studying for. I should probably get on that, huh? I'm not really worried about it though, it's essay and I always do well on those.
