Say what?

Had a good productive day at work yesterday. I'm hoping today will be similarly productive. I didn't sleep well last night though, and that always makes for a rougher day.

ASL class was also good. We watched the first 30 minutes of a VERY interesting documentary called "Audism Unveiled" about the subtle and not-so-subtle oppression of deaf people in our hearing culture. Constantly being told "I'll tell you later" by the one hearing person at a gathering that *could* sign/interpret for the deaf person, but choose not to; there were other examples, but I'm not remembering them. The movie is available at my local library, so I've requested a copy so I can see the whole thing (as I doubt we'll have time in class next week to watch the remaining hour).

I have this dream of someday being able to communicate with my husband in a noisy place and completely and easily understand him. And to also be in a group of people who're all talking and be able to understand the person(s) I want to talk with. The group thing will only happen at a 'silent picnic/coffee/pizza', but the talking with MrB will happen just as soon as we each know enough sign to hold a conversation.

It gets very frustrating sometimes to have perfect hearing 'hardware' (mechanically, my ears work fine, and in quiet I hear great), but have 'software' broken enough that I become very hard of hearing in any amount of background noise.
