The things you learn...

The talk HTB & I went to last night was very interesting. The speaker was a guy by the name of Richard Heinberg, who's a professor at a college in California (New College of California I think it is).

All about peak oil and how sometime in the next 5 years we're going to be producing the max we'll ever produce and from then on we'll globally produce less & less each year but demand will continue to exponentially increase.

Eventually of course these forces will cause prices to skyrocket & economically things in the industrialized more-oil-dependent nations will be fun. I was reminded that more stuff than the gas in my car is dependent on oil - plastics (obviously) but also chemicals, pesticides, medicines, and a thousand other little daily components of living that get from there to here via some sort of gas-consuming transport vehicle.

That's the theory anyway. It'll be interesting to see what will actually happen & when it'll happen.

There was a flyer/program handed out at the talk that had a whole list of different websites & books & things for more info.
I can post 'em if anyone's interested...

Sure does make you think, that's for sure.
